Nusa Penida is that the biggest of the three Nusa Islands just far away from mainland Bali. Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan structure the trio of islands, each with uniquely breath-taking landscapes, There are numerous awesome things to try on Nusa Penida Island but let’s start with the logistics.

Nusa Penida Transport
The roads are improving very quickly throughout Nusa Penida as tourist traffic increases but if you’re a novice scooter driver this is often gonna be a stimulating journey for you!
A motorbike costs a touch bit quite on the Bali mainland. We got ours for 70,000 rupiahs per day with a full tank of gas. It wasn’t the deal of the year but don’t expect to haggle right down to 40,000 rupiahs as you would possibly manage on the streets of Canggu or Kuta.
BEST SPOT INTAGRAM ON NUSA PENIDA BALI
Pura Goa Giri Putri Cave
We dodged a couple of rogue monkeys before arriving at the center of prayer. With no idea what he had walked in on we have blessed some water to the forehead before crawling through a small crack within the ground. Over 100 people joined us down, crawling through the crack.
Once inside, the roof opened, and that we were inside a 300m long cave. I might have loved to yell out and listen to the echo during this massive underground temple. Instead, we wandered around, enjoyed the smell of the incense, and therefore the eerie atmosphere before crawling out again.
An arch sits directly out from the shore while several islets string off within the distance. We explored the shore and therefore the ocean before enjoying a fresh $2 coconut. I can’t imagine what percentage of Instagram photos have inadvertently advertised the airline.
Peguyangan Waterfall is one of my favorite spots on Nusa Penida because it’s a mixture of everything. Up and down those steep blue stairs maybe a workout. Then you add within the spectacular coastal cliff views that are the trademark of the island
Finally, mix that in with the tradition and culture of the sacred temple and therefore the waterfall, which may be a pilgrimage site and you’ve got this awesome blend in one spot!
The hike down takes about 20 minutes, leading you right down to the pilgrimage site. I spoke to at least one of the locals who was browsing his ritual. There are three spouts.
In order, they need to shower underneath each then use the fourth main spout to end. this is often how they cleanse themselves and receive blessings.
These pools have the purest of water, it’s like drinking water it’s so clear! It’s a very beautiful area and has numerous various things happening.
If you don’t like heights skip this trek. the trail is sometimes but half a yard in breadth, On one side is that giant vertical rock wall and on your other side is a small wooden fence protecting you from certain death if you were to fall.
The fence seemed like something you’d see on an old farm, Nevertheless, we made the journey down with a self-appointed guide who insisted on joining us, At each scenic point,
he would throw his hands up and scream wow, motioning to us to require a photograph of him. I might suggest this trek because it was truly one of my favorite things to try on Nusa Penida. However, don’t expect Niagara Falls at rock bottom.
Kelingking Beach Or ‘T-Rex’ Island
The Instagram famous coastal cliffscape, which truly does appear as if a T-rex didn’t disappoint. I still remember the instant I laid eyes on the beach below. It felt like I used to be a person’s drone. I watched the crystal clear water slowly form into a wave before crashing below us, in what appeared like a movie.
We took a brief trek down the spine of the T-Rex and took within the epic drop-offs down all sides. this is often definitely my favorite thing to try on Nusa Penida and is simply one among those landscapes that cause you to feel small.
It causes you to feel lucky to be in its company, to be ready to witness earth’s creation. Nusa Penida has numerous amazing views making it hard to select a favorite. But when the cliffs form within the shape of a tyrannosaur at Kelingking Secret Point Beach it’s sure to be a crowd favorite, The land does also appear to require the shape of a Kelingking or pinkie finger.
However, it’s the comparison to the T-Rex that has caused this location to become so popular the course of the Instagram picture so many influencers take Photo and posting at their social media.
Hopped on a gaggle snorkel tour from Lembongan with one thing on our minds, We were keen on swimming with giant Manta Rays as may be a popular thing to try on Nusa Penida. We were ready to swim and snorkel with the playful Manta Rays for over half an hour.
You can book a tour locally for about $20 USD if you’re already on Penida or Lembongan otherwise you can book online before you arrive.
They were majestic and intimidating. I might dive down because the Manta swam straight at me with its mouth wide open before darting away at the last moment. I made a brief video on my GoPro:
Crystal Bay Beach
Our captain then rounded us up and took us 100 yards out into the bay on the boat and that we enjoyed the crystal clear water you’d expect at Crystal Bay. Although we were more curious about flipping off the front of the boat. What’s new?
As with all tidal pools, you would like to reach the proper time of day. If you visit Angel’s Billabong during high-tide you’ll experience a really different pool than the one you see in photos. you’ll get to check the tide employing a site like Magic Seaweed. Once you work out when the low water is, you ought to plan your itinerary around that.
The Billabong may be a remarkable formation. The crystal clear water allows you to ascertain the patterns and textures beneath the surface. In some areas, the water is deep enough for a touch dip! it’s a highly photographed spot on Nusa Penida due to how unique the landscape is.
Broken Beach is a fantastic little cove on Nusa Penida island. All-round the world, there are unique ways during which the world has eroded over time. On Nusa Penida, during an ll one amongst one in every of one among those places that leave us in a state of awe at how over many years the world has ended up as beautiful because it appears before us right now!
The arch at Broken Beach has been formed over many, a few years, and is now a real spectacle. From above the cove appears almost circular and closed, however, at eye level the arch is sort of high.
Thousand Island Nusa Penida (Pulau Seribu) Viewpoint
Firstly, you would possibly be wondering what Pulau Seribu means and it actually just means Thousand Island.
There are several viewpoints that have had fences and structures added to them for the advantage of tourists. There are huge drop-offs here therefore the fences are to stay tourists safe! to urge the primary viewpoint you would like to alight the steep stairway for about 10 minutes.
Once we reached this first viewpoint we were pretty awestruck. The view is incredible! could see a little empty beach sitting at the rock bottom of the cliff. it had been paradise.
and continued on to the second viewpoint then to the Instagram famous playhouse. took a couple of photos here and debated whether or not we might stay out here.
We all concluded it might be worthwhile for the sensation of enjoying the sunrise on the balcony of the treehouse!
Manta Ray Viewpoint
As you land up at Angel’s Billabong it’s common to steer around the corner to Broken Beach. head Capitol Hill towards the coast on your right and appearance down into the ocean.
this is often where the enormous Manta Rays hang around. It had been a reasonably awesome discovery and that we have aptly named the cliff, ‘Manta Ray Viewpoint’.
This isn’t a beach for novice swimmers and therefore the sets came out of nowhere. Please don’t swim if you aren’t 100% sure you’ll handle the conditions.
Kelingking Beach Cliff
Here may be a great little tip for enjoying Kelingking Secret Point Beach from a singular angle. rather than hiking down the steps, head to the proper along the cliffs. there’s a worn path along the cliff edge but no railing so take care.
Here you’ll find multiple epic viewpoints, with arguably a far better check out the beach than the hike. It’s an awesome spot for sunset and doesn’t involve any hiking for those of you out there trying to find the straightforward option. Definitely one among the simplest sunset spots on the island of Nusa Penida and a singular angle of Kelingking Secret Point Beach.
Treehouse (Rumah Pohon)
The playhouse (Rumah Pohon) on Nusa Penida has become something of a craze. it’s perched abreast of the mountain at Thousand Island (Pulau Seribu) viewpoint near Atuh Beach. because of some talented photographers who shared this spot on social media, it’s landed itself on the Nusa Penida bucket list of the many travelers.
it’s a part of the Thousand Island viewpoint area costing only IDR 50,000 rupiahs to park and enter, which is a smaller amount than $5 USD. the simplest part about this treehouse is that it’s actually a house and you’ll rent it out for pretty cheap considering how popular this sport has become and the way insane the view is.
Diamond Beach Viewpoint
On the right-hand side of Atuh Beach may be a staircase that leads up Capitol Hill. At the highest, you’ll find a parking zone and certainly an area that will charge you 10,000 rupiah whether you’ve got a car/moped or to not enter. the point of view is next to Atuh Beach but looks out over the bay nearby.
you’ll get the Atuh Beach view from each side but I assumed you guys would find that anyway. this is often just an epic little spot we stumbled upon and It’s a reasonably epic viewpoint though so once you are at Atuh Beach definitely rise up to the present site of the beach and check it out. Here may be a quick snap we grabbed looking down the coast from this spot.
Diamond Beach Nusa Penida
It’s funny how the days change. I’m updating this blog post now and rather than just the point of view as I discussed above, you’ll now walk right down to the beach. The locals built stairs into the cliff. Now, this beach that a year ago was only possible to look at from the cliffs, is accessible from a fantastic stairway.
Tembeling Beach, Natural Pool and Forest
Tembeling Beach may be a little hideaway bay at the top of a crazy motorbike ride down through the forest. Along the way, you’ll travel by the Tembeling natural pools. If you’re trying to find something a touch off the beaten path and far away from the tourist hot spots you’ll enjoy the journey of Tembeling Beach, natural pools, and forest.
After finding out the Tembeling Forest from within the canyon, which is sort of a scene out of a jungle movie, you’ll head down the spiral stairs towards the Tembeling Natural Pools.
There are two but the primary one is the biggest. Set nicely below the massive cliff wall, the crystal clear water features a beautiful blue tone thereto, which is strange considering all of the stones and cliffs around are orange and brown.
You’ll cliff jump from a few of the ledges at this first pool but check the depth and debris first as things can change over time. Head down a touch further and you’ll reach the second pool.
This one may be a bit more of a jacuzzi and that I actually liked it better. There are small pipe fountains you’ll wash under and it’s an excellent place to hold out. From here you’ll also keep an eye fixed on the beach!
if you continue the trail down you’ll reach Tembeling Beach. It isn’t anything too crazy especially by Nusa Penida’s lofty standards. Big cliffs on either side dwarf the tiny patch of sand.
the simplest swimming here is within the natural pools not within the ocean because the waves can get quite interesting here. Stay safe and watch the currents.
Suwehan Beach may be a place that epitomizes Nusa Penida. You’ll find huge towering cliffs, crystal clear yet strikingly blue water, an insane staircase right down to the beach, and perhaps a turtle or two. In 2018 an earthquake ruined the steps but by the top of the year, the locals had fixed them enough to form the access possible yet very sketchy. I’m sure throughout 2019 they’re going to repair the steps to their former glory.
Gama Bay Snorkeling
Everyone does the manta snorkeling on Nusa Penida, and permanently reason but the island also has some INSANE snorkeling spots. Gamat Bay is perhaps top of the lot from what I even have experienced but I’m sure there are others too. Our boat driver asked me where we wanted to travel after the Manta snorkeling and that i checked out his poster. I had snorkeled at Crystal Bay and done the Toyapakeh drift before so I pointed at Gamat Bay and told him we could have a glance there. What a decision!
We jumped off the boat, and immediately realized the water at Gamat Bay is far colder than at Manta Point and Crystal Bay. I’m unsure why that’s. The depth ranged from a couple of meters closer to shore all the way right down to an ideal free-diving depth of 5-20 meters.
Our guide told us this is often where you’ll see a turtle if you’re lucky. We looked long and hard and eventually, we found a turtle who allow us to chill near him for ten minutes as he went about his business. The water clarity at Gamat was perfect!
Teletubbies Hill Viewpoint
I have to admit, I almost didn’t visit due to the name. It seemed like some touristy photo spot. However, once I did finally make the drive into the mountains to ascertain what this spot was all about, I used to be pleasantly surprised. Nusa Penida is understood for its epic coastline. However, there are literally many rice fields and rolling hills throughout the island, which is really really large.
Teletubbies Hill may be a great place to know just how diverse the landscapes are on Nusa Penida and it had been incredibly interesting flying the drone here scoping out all the various contours, valleys, and canyons during this region. Here are a few of my favorite shots from Teletubbies Hill.

Things to understand before you go
Nusa Penida Island is sort of large compared to Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan. Therefore you’ll want to think about spending 2-3 nights on the island if you’d wish to see all of the points of interest without having to rush.
The roads in some parts are fantastic but to urge several of the waterfalls and beaches the roads were pretty crazy. sometimes we were just driving over small rocks. If you aren’t confident on a moped this might be some terrain too heavy to handle.
There were a couple of spots that locals asked us to pay a little entrance or parking fee. for instance, as we left Kelingking we had handy over 50 cents for parking albeit nothing was mentioned beforehand. Just enjoy the views fork over the tiny fee and continue on your journey.
There’s plenty of epic things to try on Nusa Penida, but I also wrote detailed guides for all of the adventurous things to try to on Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, and therefore the Nusa Islands as an overall guide.
